Frequently asked questions
Select the WiFi tab, enter your network name (SSID), choose the security type (WPA/WPA2 for most routers), and enter your password. The QR code generates immediately. Print it and guests scan it to join your network without typing the password.
No — your WiFi password is processed entirely in your browser and encoded directly into the QR code image. Nothing is sent to any server. Once you close the tab, no trace of your password remains anywhere.
Most modern home and business routers use WPA or WPA2 — select WPA/WPA2. Older routers may use WEP. If your network has no password (open network), select None. Check your router's settings page or the label on the router if unsure.
Yes — iPhones running iOS 11 or later and Android phones running Android 10 or later can scan WiFi QR codes using the built-in camera app. No third-party QR scanner app is needed.
Yes — tick the Hidden Network checkbox. The QR code will include the hidden network flag so devices can discover and connect even if the SSID is not being broadcast publicly.
Your existing QR code will stop working because it contains the old password. Simply return to this generator, enter your new password, generate a new QR code, and replace the old one.
For a table card or small sign, PNG 512px works well at a minimum print size of 4 cm × 4 cm. For wall-mounted signs use PNG 1024px or SVG. Always test scanning at the intended viewing distance before printing in bulk.
How Does a WiFi QR Code Work?
A WiFi QR code encodes your network name, security protocol, and password in the WIFI: URI format supported by iOS and Android. When a guest scans the code with their phone camera, a prompt appears asking them to join your network. One tap and they are connected — no password typing required.
Best Places to Display a WiFi QR Code
Cafés and restaurants: on table tents and at the counter. Hotels: on the welcome card in each room or at check-in. Offices: on the reception desk or meeting room whiteboards. Homes: on a fridge magnet or a printed sign near the router. The QR code makes guest access seamless and removes the need to relay the password verbally.
Is It Safe to Share WiFi via a QR Code?
As safe as sharing the password any other way. For extra security, set up a separate guest WiFi network on your router and use that for the QR code. This gives guests internet access without access to your main network and its connected devices.
WiFi QR Code vs Written Password
A written password leads to typing errors, illegibility, and the need to repeat the password. A QR code eliminates all of this — one scan, automatic connection. It also looks more professional on printed materials and can be updated by reprinting when you change your password.
